The Police have revealed that guns and some of the items stolen from the victims were retrieved from the suspects.

The police in the Eastern Region have arrested two suspected armed robbers after their robbery operation on the Bunso-Koforidua highway at the dawn of Sunday, June 6, 2021.

The arrested suspects, Haruna Amadu and Joseph Nyira, both aged 25, are suspected to have taken part in the attack and robbed of some commuters of Akyem Osiam-Bunso road including tomato traders who were on board a KIA Rhino truck with registration number GC 328-11.
 
The truck was said to travelling from Akyem Bunso, heading towards Osiem-Begoro road in the Eastern Region to Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region, when they were attacked around 4:00 am on Sunday, June 6, 2021, at Arboretum canopy Walk Evo part.

“They robbed the five female traders of their monies and bags at gunpoint, one of the traders, named Victoria was shot on her head and shoulders, and died instantly, according to police.

The police narrated that following the operation, the two armed men run into a nearby bush but were smoked out by police officers who swiftly came in after learning of the attack adding that with the support of some community members, the two were arrested.

Police say they retrieved guns and some of the items stolen from the victims.

“Items retrieved from the suspects include two unregistered single-barrel shotguns, a machete, bags, voter ID Cards and assorted mobile sim cards some of which belonged to the victims.
 
Suspects and exhibits are in the custody of the Police, pending processing for Court,” the police added.
