Do Or Die Affair is a Reckless Statement by John Dramani Mahama - ASDAPG

Alliance for Sustainable Development and Participatory Governance has task His Excellency John Dramani Mahama's comment on "Do or Die" as inappropriate.

Do Or Die Affair is a Reckless Statement by John Dramani Mahama - ASDAPG
John Mahama

A non-political pressure group, Alliance for Sustainable Development and Participatory Governance  (ASDAPG) has labelled former president His Excellency John Dramani Mahama's "Do or Die" statement as a reckless one.

It will be recalled that former President John Dramani Mahama visited Techiman, the Capital of the Bono East region as part of a "thank you tour" after the 2020 general elections.

During the visit at Techiman, the former engaged with the public at Akina Radio, a Techiman based radio station where he revealed that the 2020 elections taught the NDC that elections can only be won at the polling stations and the NDC will win the 2024 elections at the polling station. Hence his statement " at the polling station, it will be do or die" while clarifying that he was not referring to the "All die be die" statement by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

However, the "do or die" statement by Mr Mahama has been criticized by some Ghanaians who believe such statements has the tendency of destabilizing the peace of the country.

In a release by the Alliance for Sustainable Development and Participatory Governance signed by their Executive Director, Nana Korang Antwi Boasiako sighted by Soiree news, the group is urging all and sundry to threaten the "do or die" statement by H.E John Dramani Mahama with the greatest contempt as they believe that "such careless statements have the potency of setting the nation ablaze".

Below is the full release by the Alliance for Sustainable Development and Participatory Governance.

PRESS RELEASE

Date: Today
Wednesday 8th September 2021.

2024- ELECTIONS,A DO OR DIE AFFAIR;A "RECKLESS "STATEMENT BY H.E.JOHN DRAMANI MAHAMA:

Alliance for Sustainable development and participatory governance.

"The power of life and death lies on the tongue".The tongue can set our nation ablaze just as it did in Rwanda

Our Political leaders are therefore to be circumspective in their public utterances to ensure the stability of our beloved Country.

It's worth recalled that prior 2012 elections, the then Npp flag bearer and now  President of our Republic,H.E.Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo made a similar unfortunate statement"All Die bi Die".Ghanaians lamented bitterly over the "careless"statement.

It's however fragabasting hearing the Former President H.E.John Dramani Mahama making a similar nation recking statement,"Election 2024- a Do or Die affair" on AKINA FM 100.9 on Tuesday, 7th September, 2021 during his tour of the Bono East Region.

He argued, a lesson has been learnt from the  the 2021 election petition, therefore 2024 elections will be "a Do or die" But he  unfairly  refused to draw a lesson from the lives of the innocent youth lost at the coalition centre at Techiman South Constituency during the 2021 election.

As partners of development we believe that such careless statements have the potency of setting the nation ablaze thereby retrogressing the development of our beloved Country ,Ghana.we therefore  condemn  H.E.John Dramani Mahama 's "Do or Die "statement.

We therefore call on H.E John Dramani Mahama to do a sober reflection of the statement , redraw it and  apologise to the good people of Ghana.

Again we  appeal to the peace loving people of Bono East Region and Ghana to:

1.Treat HE.John Dramani Mahama's statement with the greatest contempt.

2. See  our  Courts as the only place to seek redressed during and after elections.

Finally,we admonish the youth of Bono East Region to develop their career  and avoid been used by politicians to satisfy their personal ego.

Long live Bono East Region!Long live Ghana!
