Dikoto residents pleads with government to connect them to national grid

Residents of Dikoto in the Wassa Amenfi East in the Western region of Ghana are appealing to the authorities to connect their community electricity to the national grid since they have slept in darkness for years.

Residents say since the creation of Ghana they have never had access to electricity, but in 2016 the NDC government started mounting electric poles to connect the community with electricity, and whiles the wiring was going on the project stopped when the government left office.

Residents lamented that life at Dikoto and its surroundings has been a difficult one since they can't even get chilled water to drink, television to watch and they have to travel long distances to wassa Akropng before they can even charge their mobile phone batteries.

They added that school children have to learn with touch lights while health workers sort to touch lights when treating cases in the evenings and night.

They are therefore calling on the government to continue with the rural electrification project as the previous government started to help connect them to the national grid.

The Government of Ghana (GoG) funded project estimated at US$50 million will connect several communities to the national grid, benefiting about 16,000 households.

The 24-month long project received both cabinet and parliamentary approvals and will be executed by M-S Tropical Cable & Conductor Limited (TCCL).
