The delay in Kai Havertz-Chelsea's transfer is the Blues reluctance to pay the asking price of Bayern Leverkusen over the German.

Frank Lampard has already secured Timo Werner at €52m and Hakim Ziyech €40 million yet the Premier League club is keen to acquire Havertz for €70m, which Leverkusen are not ready to accept.

RMC Sports disclosed that "discussions are continuing" between the two sides with Chelsea "optimistic" of getting the deal done” yet Leverkusen are not willing to lower the player’s asking price.

Chelsea have already agreed on a five-year contract with Havertz, confirmed by The Sun and must find every possible means to reach an agreement with the Bundesliga club if only they desperately require the services of the 21-year old.

"Havertz has made it clear he wants to move to Chelsea," said Sky Sports reporter, Solheko in an update.

"The problem is going to be the valuation.

"Leverkusen want £90m; Chelsea are thinking they may be able able to do a deal for around £70m. But the player really wants to move and wants to work with Frank Lampard."

Leverkusen have exited the Europa League following their 2-1 loss in the quarter-finals to Inter Milan on Monday night.
