The Danes celebrate qualification

After losing to Finland and Belgium in their first two encounters, Denmark finally discovered the secret to their winless spell in the group stages of the competition.

The end to the Danes losing streak would now put Christian Eriksen in a very comfortable and exhilarating mood.

The Danes made it through to the last round of 16 on Monday after a convincing 4-1 win over Russia.

Denmark now qualified to the round of 16, finishing second in Group B alongside Group leaders Belgium and Finland taking the third-place spot.

Goals from Mikkel Damsgaard, Yussuf Poulsen, Andreas Christensen and Joakim Maehle gave Denmark the first win of their Euro 2020 campaign on a joyous evening at the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen.

Delirious fans showered each other with beer as Denmark rattled in the goals that allowed them to end the group stage in party mood after the trauma of Christian Eriksen's mid-match collapse in their opening fixture against the Finns.

Kasper Hjulmand’s team will face Wales in the last 16 in Amsterdam on Saturday, while the Russians go home after coming off worst in a three-way, head-to-head tie-breaker with Finland and the Danes.

Hjulmand praised the "amazing" team spirit and seriousness shown on the field of play to record that stunning victory.

"If anyone deserves this it's our players. I can't imagine how they managed to come back from what they went through,"

"I think it helps the team and hopefully it gives the whole country some good moments." Kasper Hjulmand’s told reporters.
