Despite peace negotiations in the Saudi port city of Jeddah and the signing of a "declaration of principles" on May 11 to protect civilians and permit humanitarian relief, the conflicts that started on April 15 have gotten worse.

The Sudanese Doctors' Syndicate reported on Tuesday that El-Geneina in West Darfur state had witnessed the worst violence since the conflict began, with 280 dead and more than 160 injuries in just the previous two days.

The capital Khartoum, the neighboring cities of Bahri and Omdurman, as well as El Obeid (also Al-Obeid), the capital of North Kordofan State, are among the other cities where citizens perished in the skirmishes, according to the medics.

According to the UN, the violence, which is now in its second month, has also forced nearly a million people to leave their homes.
