Death toll in land dispute in Wa rises to two

The death toll in the lecturer's killing in the Wa Municipality of the Upper West Region over a land dispute has now risen to two.

This follows the death of the 46-year-old victim, Iddrisu Alhassan, on Friday, March 18, 2022, who was part of the four injured from the shooting on admission at the Wa Municipal hospital receiving treatment.

Mr. Stephen Mane, a 64-year-old retired lecturer of the Dr. Hilla Liman Technical University yesterday reportedly met his untimely death when he was allegedly hit by a stray bullet near SSNIT Flats in the Wa Municipality by a 61-year-old businessman.

The gunman, Mr. Abdul-Rahman Yunusa had reportedly stormed the parcel of land under contention to ward off some young men working on the said land allegedly started shooting sporadically with a pump-action gun aiming at them.

However, Mr. Mane who had pulled his car by the roadside to enable the engine to cool down from excessive overheating unfortunately got hit by a stray bullet killing him instantly.

The other four commuters passing by were also hit by the bullet from the marauding effects of the pump-action gun of the disgruntled 61-year-old suspect.

A truck parked nearby was equally not spared as it had its screens smashed as well.

Meanwhile, the young men whose actions allegedly triggered the shooting spree from Mr. Yunusa however escaped unhurt, according to eyewitnesses.

C/Insp. Gideon Ohene Boateng, Head of the Public Affairs Department of the Upper West Regional Police Command, in confirming the incident said the suspect who was arrested is currently behind bars pending investigations and prosecution.

The suspect, Abdul-Rahman Yunusa, has been remanded into Police custody on Friday, March 18, by the Wa Magistrate Court presided over by Mr. Maxwell Titriku.
