Dan Botwe  Home Town Roads Are Death Trap! -As Chiefs, Queen-mothers threaten protests over bad roads

THE MINISTER of Local Government, Decentralisation and Local Development, who doubles as the Member of Parliament (MP) of Okere Constituency in the Eastern Region, Mr  Daniel Kweku Botwe, has incurred the wrath of the various, traditional office holders, chiefs, queen-mothers and youths of Anum, Asikuma, Boso and Gua among others for looking unconcerned over the deteriorated nature of the roads liking from Asikuma-Anum-Boso-Gua.

According to the residents, they couldn't understand why the MP who is one of the prominent personalities in the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has failed to offer advise to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to fix the worsening nature of the roads in the areas.
They complained to the journalists that the deteriorating roads can be likened to a death- trap especially during this season of the year when there is frequent downpour.
They maintained that the deteriorating nature of the roads had been constantly destroying their vehicles, preventing many commercial drivers to ply their roads to their communities.
"So it is now that we the chiefs, traditional office holders and queen-mothers of these communities  are asking the Minister of Local Government who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Okere that what does he be doing to let his NPP government fix his hometown roads," they rethorically quried.
"Mr Daniel Kweku Botwe biological mother comes from Boso and the MP has house at Boso and he normally comes to Boso so we are asking him that whenever he plies these roads to his community, does he see the bad nature of these roads and what king of proper advises he is offering to his NPP government and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to fix these roads for us.
"What does Mr Daniel Kweku Botwe expects from us to do before his government cones to continue the construction of these roads the contractor has abandoned for the past two years ago for us," they further asked.
However the bad nature of the roads from Asikuma-Anum-Boso-Gua have infuriated the Krotihene of the Nanyor Boso Gua Traditional Area in the Eastern Region, Nana Owusu Sakyi IV who has used the grand durbar of the celebration of this year's annual yam festival of the people of Nanyor Boso Gua to appeal to President Akufo-Addo to urgently release fund available the contractor to come to the roads and fix the roads.
Addressing the gathering, the chief pointed out that he invited the media practitioners to come this year's programme just to tell them about the bad nature of their roads which government has failed to fix despite they had made several complains to the central the government.
He was of the view that the late President Flt Lt Jerry Rawlings has constructed these roads and applied coater on them for the past forty (40) years but these roads had been deteriorated.
What was very irritating, according to the chief, was that President Akufo-Addo has awarded the construction of these roads from Asikuma-Anum-Boso-Gua to the contractor but suddenly the contractor has abondaned the project and left the site without apparent reason, which has worsen the problem on the roads.
"If the contractor knows that he cannot do the project why is it that he came to destroy the roads by degrading the old coater applied on the roads by the late President Rawlings and and left the roads in the current bad natures for the past two years now, which has rather created more problem than before. So why the contractor does so," the chief rethorically quried.
Nana Owusu Sakyi IV complained that whenever they traveling on these roads and upon reaching the Asikuma stretch of the"you would observed that the contractor has used sand to fill the road which has been spreading dangerous dusts on the commuters."
"We have drawn several attentions to the state feeder road authorities. I personally made several calls to the contractor and that sometimes when l called he would picked my calls to make so many excuses.
But sometimes when l called the contractor, he would fail to answer my calls. So l am happy not that my people would be going through these hell of travelling on these roads to and fro," the chief angrily said.
Mincing no words, he accused President Akufo-Addo led New Patriotic Party government of being insensitive and unconcerned to their poor road networks.
The chief and his people said their communities cannot continue to be denied the needed developmental projects due to the poor leadership class of their government and MPs.
The days of weak leadership for their areas through our Members of Parliament cannot continue to deprive our communities the needed development it long deserved,” the chief stated.
According to him, all the people in these areas were getting fed up with the “failed and empty promises” by President Akuffo-Addo to fix the roads and thus their patience was fast waning.
Consequently, he served notice of their intention to stage protests against the government of AkufoAddo to compel it to refurbish the deteriorating roads.
“Since they have deliberately decided to deceive us all the time, the only option we have now is to stage a demonstration, and that is in the offing,” he said.
The chief subsequently disclosed that sick persons were carried on motorbikes and bicycles to hospitals due to the deplorable state of their roads, adding that their roads had become death traps for motorists and passengers to use.
He appealed to the government to take immediate action on the roads, saying that the roads are now grave which was affecting the free movement of the people in the various communities, thereby making them suffering.
‘We have been calling for assistance over the years but we are yet to see action on them for free movement of goods and service,’ he said.
“Our commercial drivers are crying of the grace roads I am appealing to the government to fix our roads.
He indicated that the Akufo-Addo-led NPP government had neglected Asikuma,Anum and Gua Boso communities for a very long time.
“The sick are dying as a result of the bad nature of roads in our communities, so if we do not see any improvement on them then we will embark on a massive demonstration and we will make sure we sustain it till the right things are done,” Nana Owusu Sakyi IV further warned.
Nana Owusu Sakyi IV recounted that President Akuffo-Addo promised in the run-up to the 2016 polls that the NPP government would ensure that the Asikuma-Anum-Boso roads were constructed.
The chief wondered why President Akufo-Addo failed to construct the roads and also improve the living conditions of the inhabitants of the area.
