Covid-19: 1,500 patients waiting to be officially cleared and discharged- Dr Nsiah

Some 1,500 covid-19 patients in Ghana are waiting to be officially cleared free of the virulent disease and subsequently discharged, the Presidential Advisor on Health, Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare has disclosed.

Ghana’s recovery count of the coronavirus disease saw a sharp rise, from 670 to 1754 on Saturday.

The recent development came as a surprise to many Ghanaians, as other critics challenged the veracity of the figures given by the Ghana Health Service in regards to the pandemic situation.

For instance, the aide of former President John Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, expressed doubts about the covid-19 recoveries calling for probe into the matter.

But Dr Nsiah-Asare said more Covid-19 recoveries than recorded in the last update, are being expected, as some 1,500 patients are waiting to be tested for the second time.

A negative result from the second covid-19 test, will see the patients officially cleared of the disease and discharged.

Dr Nsiah Asare said this in an interview on on TV3 news.

He expressed the hope that Ghanaians will have something to smile about when the figures come out.

“If you are isolated for two weeks and you pass your two negative tests we discharge you to go home and pronounce you as recovered. If you remember, people were complaining about our rate being very low but now we thank God that our recovery rate has gone up over 1,000. We still have about 1,500 more patients who are awaiting their second tests so we can declare them as recovered. I have the confidence that over 1,000 people will recover soon,” he said.
