The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has banned all international conferences on campus as part of precautionary measures from contracting the coronavirus disease.

This directive follows a declaration of the outbreak as a ‘pandemic’ by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Since it was first detected in the central Chinese city of Wuhan in December 2019, the virus has spread to every continent except Antarctica and infected more than 121,000 people, causing 4,300 deaths.

Already, all of Ghana’s immediate neighbours, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire and Togo, have recorded confirmed cases of infections, and countries like Italy, where there is a large population of Ghanaians, have escalated their response to the outbreak.

The institution has also place temporarily placed a ban on international travel for staff.

UCC staff already out on international travel have also been directed to self-quarantine for at least 5 days before they report to the office.
