Commercial drivers in their various unions are threatening to embark on a demonstration on Wednesday, December 29.

This according to them is to register their displeasure for government's failure to scrap taxes like the Price Stabilisation and Recovery Levy, Special Petroleum Tax, the Energy Recovery Debt Levy and the Sanitation levy.

According to the drivers, they have legally secured  permit from the police on the demonstration and commended the police for their collaboration with their national executives towards their up- coming demonstration. 

In a press statement copied to Soireenews, all 16 regional executives of the Association assured Ghanaians that the intended  demonstration is not to punish ,"our customers but rather to seek the interest of all of us. '

"If the government do not cut off these nuisance taxes, then we would have to increase the prices of our fares which we don't want to, due to the poor state of our economy. 

"We are by this encouraging all our stakeholders to support the core of this demonstration scheduled 29/12/2021," the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Akwadaa Nyame and Central Regional Chairman of the Association
Akwesi Arhin signed  the press conference statement.

"Ladles and gentlemen these taxes, Luxury car tax, 2% component of Special Import Levy, Increased ESLA by 30%, Price Stabilization and Recovery Levy on fuel increase by 40%,  Unified Petroleum Pricing Formula has been increased by 164%," they added.

They add that the BOST margin has increased from 3 Pesewas to 9 Pesewas representing 200% increase and fuel marking margin levy has also been increased by another 233%  are directly affecting us. 

"We solidly in support with our National executives and urged them to fight on . 

The statement concludes that "We would like to caution all drivers to drive safely to prevent road accidents during the holiday season."
