Manchester City must meet the demands of Sevilla otherwise a deal for Jules Kounde would not be settled before the transfer window closes.

The French U21 international made 40 appearances in all competitions last season and was part of Julen Lopetegui’s side that secured a sixth Europa League title in August.

Sky Sports have reported that the Citizens have had a €55m for the French professional footballer rejected, with the Spanish club having no intention of selling their defender.

The 21-year old is resourceful on the backline and could be exploited at different positions for this reason that Los Nervionenses would not surrender to an amount they believe is below the player’s value.

"There has been an offer of 50-55m euros but Sevilla don't want to sell him," Montero told Sky Sports News.

"They have answered with details of a release clause - 90m euros.

"Kounde can play as a right-back or centre-back. Some people call him a 'total defender'. He can also play at right-wing so there's many options. He's strong, good on the ball and extremely quick."

Manchester City had most of their woes coming from the central defence last season losing nine games and drawing three. An initial interest in Kalidou Koulibaly was launched but Napoli's £70m asking price seems huge for the 29-year old.

Having already secured Nathan Ake from relegated Bournemouth, the former PL champions are looking to strengthen their backline with the addition of another defender.

They kick off the new season against Wolves at the Molineux tonight.
