Twelve persons who were arrested earlier believed to be members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in connection with the Chereponi disturbances in the North East Region over the nomination of Madam Zuwera Nashuru as the District Chief Executive for the area have been released.

The arrested suspects are Kwabena Manteng,43, Iddrisu Abdul-Rahaman,42, Sumaila Ibrahim,16, Kasim Abdul-Aziz,28, Kasim Latif,65, Ibrahim Awuffor,23, Osman Yussif,36, Mohammed Abdul-Latif,29, Fuseini Bawah,30, Kwame Mahamud,31, Bashiru Ayabli,29 and Aremeyaw,22.

Soireenews can report authoritative that, the suspects were not slapped with any charges before their bail after their arrest, meanwhile, the police have remained tight-lipped over their release.

Some aggrieved NPP supporters on September 19, 2021, destroyed party properties, attack the constituency chairman, burnt the party office in Chereponi over the nomination of Zuwera Mada Nashuru.

During their protest they alledged that the DCE nominee is a known member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), adding that she campaigned against the NPP and recently joined the NPP after the 2016 elections.
