Trevor Sinclair says Lampard’s current team is not impressing this season as compared to the youngsters that featured in last season’s campaign.

Chelsea have spent more than £250m to acquire new signings this season and were expected by many to begin the Premier League campaign on a flying start but results have not gone their way most of the time.

They are eight on the league table with eight points having lost once to Liverpool, drawn and won twice each.

Timo Werner and Kai Havertz both scored their debut goals in the Premier League against Southampton last Saturday as the Blues surrendered a 3-0 lead to play level with the Saints.

Results did not go their way in the Blues opening Champions League fixture at the Bridge against Sevilla and per the view of Lampard's former West Ham teammate, the integration of the new and old players would take time.

“I’m still up in the air with my opinions about Chelsea,” said Sinclair on Friday's talkSPORT Breakfast.

“I’m not sure which way it is going to go.

“Frank came in at Chelsea and did really well last season, and I thought that the young players that were introduced to the squad integrated really well and put in good performances.

“But this year, since he had that money to spend in the summer… I’m just not sure which way it is going to go.

“You’ve got some quality players in there – Havertz, Werner, Ziyech and so on – but for me they look liked a better outfit last year. There was more spirit about the team.

“It’s going to take a while, I think, to blend the players together.”

The Blues will visit Old Trafford on Sunday to play Manchester United who are also on the verge of revival after their two wins in their last two matches-against Newcastle and Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League.
