Mr. George Amoako, the Chief executive Officer of Kotoko says Sunday’s downpour at the Baba Yara Stadium caused a disorder in Kotoko's pursuit to secure qualification in the CAF Confederations Cup first leg play off.

Asante Kotoko completed their Confederations Cup play-off first leg match on Monday after the second 45 minutes was upset by a heavy downpour. The match was 0-0 at half time behind missed opportunities from the Porcupine Warriors. A kick around of the ball by center referee Eugine Nkosinathi Mdlule to check movement proved futile as the game was postponed to the following day in honor of the second half.

According to the CEO, the heavy rain was a distraction, which averted Kotoko’s focus on Sunday from scoring goals to assure qualification.

“The weather did not help us to get enough goals as we had wished for. This is because the rain deterred us from organizing our play in the second half which helped the away tem to defend better on Monday,” he spoke via phone on Angel Sports on Tuesday afternoon.

The Porcupine Warriors scored the only goal through Naby Keita after the referee awarded a penalty in additional time to give them a 1-0 lead over FC San Pedro.

“There was much pressure on the boys to win the game in 45 minutes which kept them wasting glorious chances. The opponents took advantage of the limited time and kept ballooning the balls.  We were even lucky to get a goal"

“We will travel to Ivory Coast and fight for qualification” he added.

The Ghana Football Association Executive Committee member on the issue of security assured fans that the team would be safeguarded following an allegation of maltreating FC San Pedro players and officials on Sunday.

“They (FC San Pedro) came to provoke us to enable them retaliate in the second Leg at Ivory Coast but we kept out temper and are taking steps to ensure adequate security,” he promised.

The game will be played on Sunday, November 3, 2019 at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny
