Cable thief suffers burn injuries

When he attempted to steal electricity lines from an Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) plant at Whindo near Takoradi, an unidentified guy, who is said to be in his early 30s, was severely burned.

The sad event took place on Wednesday night.

According to reports, the guy attempted to climb a pole to cut more copper cables after digging out some cables.

According to information obtained by DGN Online, the effort produced a sizable spark on top of the poles, which attracted the attention of some locals and caused them to phone the ECG.

The suspect was then discovered to have significant burns and was taken immediately to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi, where he is presently undergoing treatment, according to sources.

According to Ing. Emmanuel Justice Ofori, the Western Regional General Manager of ECG, such behaviors create faults and unstable supply.

"We urge the public to help the ECG by providing crucial information on such criminals so that they might be caught."

Additionally, he asked electricity users to keep an eye out for any strange activity on ECG property and report it.

"Usually, their actions or inactivity leave a lot of people in the dark. Because someone tried to steal energy cables, businesses have paused.

"We ask to the public," he said, "to report to the nearest station if they spot anyone operating on our network who are not workers of ECG."
