"Burnt UNASCO Building It's In Good Shape" - Engineer

The Head of the Advance Material Science Division of the Building and Road Research Institute (BRRI) Engineer Dr Marc Bediako, has affirmed that the structural integrity of the burnt UNASCO building is very good.

According to him, his firm, Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) have been contracted to research the burnt building to determine if it can withstand its intended loading without failing due to fracture, deformation or fatigue should the building be repaired.

Dr Bediako said his team comprising of civil engineers, chemical engineers and material science engineers will be submitting their final findings probably next week but the data they have picked is very encouraging and there is no need to be alarmed by the integrity of the structure.

He revealed that his team used three modern machines, Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity Machine, which studies the strength of the structure's load areas, Concrete Resistivity Machine, which determines the durability of the reinforced concretes in the structure and a Digital Smith Hammer, which checks the strength of the columns and beams of the structure.

This according to him has given them a very positive result and assures all and sundry that should incase the building is repaired, it can stand the test of time.
