Buhari orders ministers to end university strike

President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria has ordered the country's labor and education ministers for two weeks to put an end to the protracted professor strike.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in the nation encouraged its members to avoid work on February 14 and they haven't come back since.

They are demonstrating against the government's refusal to carry out a 2009 agreement that would have seen academics receive greater salaries and improved facilities in higher education institutions.

The union maintains that their activities are in the best interests of the students, who must spend more time in class as a result of the calendar disruption.

To halt the industrial action, union representatives and the administration have been in talks, but the efforts have not been fruitful.
