According to authorities, a Kenyan lady who was employed as a domestic helper in a government official's home and is accused of stealing money from the residence was detained at a witchdoctor's temple.

The suspect and her companion were detained, according to the police, at a "famous witchdoctor's residence" in a town close to Nairobi, "where she had gone to seek shelter" from detention.

The suspect was discovered by detectives as she was submerged in a basin of blood from a dead bird, according to a statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

The statement continued, "When the old witch-doctor saw the detectives, she recited lengthy incantations to ward them off, but that did not stop the sleuths from carrying out their task much to the bemusement of [the suspect], who had closed her eyes expecting the sleuths to depart.

The DCI also posted images of the purported witch doctor paraphernalia on Twitter.
