Information available to the Soireenews.com indicates that residents of Battor Traditional Area in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region were living in absolute fear and panic following a bloody gun battles at Battor township this morning [Friday December 16, 2022].
The gun battles, the sources indicated occurred when the people in the area were preparing to go and perform sacred rituals at the bush on Friday December 16, 2022.
These rituals would pave way for the grand durbar on Saturday December 17, 2022 to celebrate this year's annual Hogbeza festival of the chiefs and people of Battor Traditional Area.
According to the media report of Mafi-Adidome-based Dela FM monitored by the Soireenews.com, the police have confirmed that three persons have been killed.
But sources closed to the Battor indicated that eight (5) persons have been dead while several others have sustained severe gun and machete wounds, who are in the critical condition on the admission of Battor Roman Catholic Hospital.
However, the police and military personnel were reported to have taken over the Battor township.
The gun battle, this portal learned was as a result of protracted chieftaincy dispute between the elders of the Battor Royal Paramount Stool.
When contacted to seek further clarification on the matter, the District Chief Executive of the North Tongu District Assembly, who doubles as the Chairman of DISEC, Mr Divine Osborn Kwadzo Fenu stated that he cannot commented on the matter now.
It would be recalled that that the Volta Regional Security Council (REGSEC) and North Tongu District Security Committee (DISEC) have jointly placed injuction on this year's celebration of annual Hogbeza festival of the chiefs and people of Battor Traditional Area.
The one page letter which was signed by the North Tongu District Assembly Coordinator, Mr Emmanuel Layea Tetteh was distributed to the Paramount Chief of Battor Traditional Area, Togbega Patamia Dzekley VII, the Battor Traditional Council, Paramount Stool Father of Battor Royal Stool, Zikpuitor Korsi Hottor, the Chairman of 2022 Battor Hogbeza Festival Planning Committee, Mr Doe Kpeli.
The letter reads in part " l wish to inform your office that following the developments in the Battor Traditional Area and a subsequent review at the Volta Regional level on November 30, 2022, in Ho, the Volta Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has recommended that an injunction be placed on the 2022 Battor Hogbeza Festival and its related activities."
The letter continued that; "Volta Regional Security Council and North Tongu District Security Committee (DISEC) look forward to the cooperation on the above stated position in the interest of the general peace and security of the area.
 
According to the letter, "the court processes have commenced in respect of same to be duly served on all the parties."
