Bono regional Minister Madam Justina Owusu Banahene has visited the rehabilitation site of the ongoing Sunyani Airport project.

Together with officials from the Bono RCC, the Minister wanted to be sure the Airport could be ready for use in the stipulated March 2022.
The minister in December 2021 said Sunyani will see the activities of flight at the Airport by the end of January 2022 but due to some delays, the time is expanded to March 2022.
Madam Justina Owusu Banahene said there was the need to be visiting the site from time to time to ensure work is ongoing with all seriousness.
The Minister’s visit to the site is the second time within ten days.
She was in the company of officials from NADMO, the Military, and other stakeholders.
She has promised to revisit the site later in the day to make sure work is ongoing.
Madam Justina added that she had to make sure the proper materials are used in the construction of the Runway adding that, in the 3rd week of March there will be a heavy test flight on the Airport to ascertain its safety and readiness for use.
Rehabilitation of the Sunyani Airport
Rehabilitation works on the Sunyani Airport which was halted has begun in earnest. The objective of the rehabilitation project is to, among other things, ensure that facilities and services at the airport meet all international safety and security standards.
The scope of work includes rehabilitation/reconstruction and extension of the existing runway, rehabilitation of existing taxi link, rehabilitation and upgrade of the existing apron, resurfacing of internal roads, rehabilitation and remodelling of the existing terminal building to make space for all necessary terminal facilitation.
It will be recalled that in March 2015, the Sunyani Airport was temporarily shut down due to the extent of visible deterioration of the airfield.
