Bono Region Leading in HIV/AIDS Cases in the Country.

According to him, the region recorded the highest HIV prevalence in both the general population and pregnant women of 2.61% and 4.5% respectively.

The Bono Regional Technical Coordinator for Ghana Aids Commission, Ahmed Ibrahim Bambilla  has stated that, the Region is leading in HIV/AIDS  prevalence cases in the country.

According to him, the region recorded the highest HIV prevalence in both the general population and pregnant women of 2.61% and 4.5% respectively.

He added that, the figures are higher than the national and the regional figures recorded of 950 new HIV infections in 2021 and a total of 22,350  people living with the HIV virus in the Bono Region.

The Technical Coordinator disclosed this at the World Aids Day in Sunyani and added that the Sunyani Municipal has recorded the highest HIV prevalence of 4.22% and a number of 250 new infections cases among the District and Municipal Assemblies in the region.

He said, the Ghana Aids Commission is 20 years old and the theme for the 20th Anniversary is "20 years of Multi Sectoral HIV Response: Accelerating Progress to End AIDS.

He said, the Ghana Aids Commission would continue to utilize Multi Sectoral approach to ensure they achieve epidemic control.

He called on stakeholders including the Clergy and Chief Imams to support the fight against HIV/AIDS cases which is on the rise in the region.

The Bono Regional Minister Honourable Justina Owusu Banahene on her part stated that, the government will continue to support HIV/AIDS activities in the country to prevent it's rise in the region.

She called on traditional leaders and other stakeholders to join the fight in reducing HIV infections in the country.
