Berekum District Chief Executive Supervised Free Distribution of Seedlings to Farmers

The District Chief Executive of Berekum West District in the Bono Region Honourable Dominic Oppong together with the Department of Agric has today distributed free seedlings to farmers to boost the government initiative of planting for food and export.

Honorable Dominic Oppong explained that because the President plans to help farmers to get foreign exchange through cash crops, he said the Assembly today distributed 50,000 seedlings of cashew and 3000 seedlings of coconut were given out to the farmers for plantation.

He advised the farmers to follow the guidelines pf receiving the seedlings to plant them and not to throw them away but adopt the practices of the agric officers to ensure their farms are yielding enough returns for the benefit of the District.

The District Agric Officer, Mr. Eric Danso, also added that the Assembly is planning to support the farmers with every technical advice to reap enough cashew beans or coconut after 4 to 5 years to help the farmers in their activities.

He stressed that the agric extension officers are also going to monitor the seedlings the farmers are collecting to their farmers to make sure they planted them to achieve the aim of giving out the seedlings.

A farmer who received some of the seedlings also thanked the government and the Assembly for their prompt support to the farmers by sharing the free seedlings with them and promising they will plant them to achieve the targeted results the Assembly has set for the farmers in some years ahead.
