The people of Kulbonduli are facing water crisis for several weeks now.

The farming community which is located within the Yapei / Yipala electoral area in the Central Gonja District of the Savannah region has been struggling to get water for drinking and other domestic purposes. 

Kulbonduli community has an inhabitants population of about 600 and are counting daily plight in getting clean water. The inhabitants who depend on the only dug well as a source of potable drinking water has dried up completely leaving them to rely on the dam for their domestic activities.

Some members of the community bitterly complained about this water problem to Soireenews during our visit to the community on Monday, January 11, 2021.

An elder of the community Baba Gundadoo said they are competing with animals such as cattle, goats, sheep among others at the dam. He told that sometimes men in the community have to wake up at dawn to police the dam to prevent animals entry into the water for the women to fetch the surface clean water.

Baba Gundadoo further indicated if care is not taken in the coming weeks the dam will totally dry up.

Women who were spotted fetching water at the dam refused to be captured on record but expressed the frustrations in getting water for domestic use which is worsening day by day at Kulbonduli.

The dam water is looking milky and one has to walk through mud some meters before getting access to the water.  According to them, many appeals have been made to the District Chief Executive, the Member of Parliament and the Regional Minister but non has made any attempt to get this old-age problem solved.

Soireenews contacted the Assemblymember for Yapei/ Yipala electoral area Hon Matinu Jakpa to ascertain how far this water problem has reached in terms of its solution. Per his words, plans have gone far leaving no stone unturned to get the community a befitting dam. 

Honourable Matinu also called on all stakeholders including the District Assembly and other benevolent organizations to come to the aid of Kulbonduli community for the community to get potable drinking water to prevent the people from contracting water-borne diseases.
 

He, however, assured the community of getting a befitting dam or a water supply system by the end of this year 2021.
