Beginning May 8, teacher trainees are required to feed themselves.

From May 8, the National Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education in Ghana (PRINCOF) has ordered that teacher trainees start funding their food.

The failure of colleges of education to pay for food supplies supplied to them has prompted this regulation.

According to PRINCOF, food suppliers who had been providing supplies to the Colleges of Education for months without being paid have finally stopped doing so until they are paid.

In a letter to the Education Minister, PRINCOF stated, "Most Colleges presently have food supplies that can only last one week if students are to be fed with three (3) meals a day."

As a result, PRINCOF has proposed that:

"For one week, from April 23 to April 30, 2022, trainee teachers will be provided with two meals, breakfast and dinner only."

"Trainee instructors will only be fed lunch from May 1 to May 8, 2022."

It stated that "from May 8, trainee teachers would be required to supply their lunches until their feeding allowances are reimbursed."

Meanwhile, food sellers are being pushed to boost the number of daily meals they prepare for students to purchase.

"These steps are being taken to guarantee that the academic schedule is not disrupted," the letter ended.
