Be Mindful Of How You Report Asantehene-Dormaahene Quarrel” – Journalists Warnned

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has urged journalists to be circumspect in their reportage on the controversies between Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and the  Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeyo Dr. Agyeman Badu II.

It asked media editors and social media activists to adhere to ethical journalism standards in publishing statements from the two chiefs.
The GJA said this is highly relevant in forestalling tension and conflict that may arise from such reportage.
“The GJA particularly wants traditional media editors and social media activists to filter any pronouncements from the two chiefs through a very tight weave of journalistic responsibility and gatekeeping.
This is to ensure that the public is fed with ethically wholesome and culturally edifying information which will not escalate the tension nor compromise the peace and security in the two traditional areas and by extension the entire nation.
The media must be part of the solution and not part of a chieftaincy clash of staggering magnitude,” the statement said.
Speaking to on Ark in the morning show monitored by Soiree News, the National President of the association, Dr. Rolland Affail Monney said, Journalists must play their professional role as referees and not escalate the issue.
He cautions that feuds of this nature if not carefully reported can negatively affect the peace and harmony the country is enjoying. “And since journalists are the center of the whole thing and are serving are intermediaries, there is the need to caution them”, he added.
There is an ongoing quarrel between the Asantehen Otumfour Osei Tutu and the Dormaahene Osagyefo Oseadeyo Agyemang Badu II over some comments and responses from both sides.
The feud seems to be a revisit of the olden beef between the two tribes from their forefathers.
Various advocates have called for calm between the two powerful kings.
