Berekum Omanhene Declares Intention to Stop Any Attempt by Galamseyers on His Land.

Speaking during the annual Kwafie Yam Festival in Berekum, the traditional leader expressed concern about how most of the lands in some part of the country has been degraded through the activities of galamseyers hence his readiness together with the other traditional leaders to stop anybody or organisation to venture their land for galamsey.

The Omanhene of Berekum Traditional Area in the Berekum Municipal of the Bono Region, Dasebre Dr Amankona Diewui II has declared his intention to stop any possible attempt by illegal miners also know as galamsey to destroy his land.

Speaking during the annual Kwafie Yam Festival in Berekum, the traditional leader expressed concern about how most of the lands in some part of the country has been degraded through the activities of galamseyers hence his readiness together with the other traditional leaders to stop anybody or organisation to venture their land for galamsey.

According to him, the Minerals Commission and other authorities will be prevented from his land even if a permit is granted to any individuals to start mining activities in Berekum, sitting an example that an authorisation was given to someone to mine at Amomaso, a suburb of Berekum by the Minerals Commission but said, the Berekum traditional council stood against such authorisation by the Mineral Commission and prevented such a move on their land.

He, therefore, urged all the political heads in both the Municipal and District Chief Executives of Berekum East and West respectively to be on alert to prevent any possible attempt to mine on any of the District.
