Bawumia Must Call His Supporters To Order - Prof Amoako Baah advises

Political Scientist and Lecturer with Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Prof Richard Amoako Baah, has advised the Vice President, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia to call his supporters to order since his supporters' actions and inactions were creating tension, confusion and division within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the country.

According to the outspoken Political Science Professor, the impunity with which supporters of Dr Bawumia are shamefully disregarding party rules and harassing leaders of the party is unfortunate.

Speaking in an interview with Accra based Asaase Radio monitored by Soireenews, Prof. Amoako Baah stressed that “it is shameful, there are no rules, there are no standards, they do anything, so I will say it, I will use this platform to tell the Vice President to call his supporters to order. This is not appropriate.”

He noted that a group calling itself ‘BAWUS’ has been reported to have harassed Hon Alan Kyerematen, Minister for Trade and Industry, at the funeral of the father of Gabby Otchere-Darko in Koforidua, Eastern Region over the weekend.

Some political watchers have expressed fear that the New Patriotic Party may lose the 2024 general elections due to the uncontrolled behaviour of supporters. The general view is that the unnecessary insults, attacks and malicious propaganda against party leaders including Hon Alan Kyerematen will adversely affect the party’s electoral chances in 2024.

The supporters of the Vice President who attend funerals in branded Dr Bawumia t-shirts are noted for their chants and campaigns at funerals. It will be recalled that they turned the funerals of Dr Amoako Tuffour, Sir John and that of Gabby Otchere-Darko’s father into political campaign grounds.

Though many NPP members and sympathizers have expressed their displeasure, there is no sign yet that the ’BAWUS’ are going to desist from such culturally unacceptable behaviour.
