Self-acclaimed patron of New Patriotic Party (NPP), United States Cincinnati Ohio Chapter, Mr Owusu Afriyie has reiterated that if the NPP mandates Dr Muhamadu Bawumia as its flagbearer in the 2024 elections, they should expect nothing than a total loss.

According to him, Allan Kyeremateng commitment towards the party in the last decade with strength and resources must be rewarded following several attempts to lead the NPP but lost to Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo through the party's presidential primaries.

Mr Allan John Kwadwo Kyerematen contested Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2007, capturing 32.3% of votes cast and became the first runner-up to the current president who gained 47.96% of votes cast.

Although the National Chairman for the party, Mr Freddy Blay has asked both Dr Bawumia and Alan Kyeremateng to direct their supporters to cease campaigning ahead of the 2024 flagbearership race yet Mr Owusu Afriyie believes the latter is the ideal candidate for the New Patriotic Party in 2024 and Bawumia must not endeavour to challenge him for the role.

“I don’t know why Bawumia is pulling himself as the new flagbearer when the time is not due, but the truth is truth, the mandate must be given to Allan to lead after Nana Addo,” Mr Owusu Afriyie said.

“He (Alan Kyeremateng) has served the party for decades with his strength plus resources and it’s time to reward him. Alan has lots of influence on the party and we don’t need to argue that. Ghana needs knowledgeable men like him to keep on with the good works of Akufo Addo.

“There are some gurus in the party like Osafo Marfo, Kyei Mensa Bonsu and Allan who have the political knowledge to drive the NPP, giving them the mantle can help move the country forward,” he added.

He contrasted that Dr Muhamadu Bawumia has nothing to boast of when it comes to resources to progress the New Patriotic Party for Ghana's benefit.

Regardless of Dr Bawumia's position as the vice president of Ghana, the self-acclaimed patron of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), United States, Cincinnati Ohio Chapter boldly declared that the influence of the Minister of Trade and Industry on the party cannot be compared to what Dr Bawumia has brought, therefore, if the NPP backs the vice president to contest as the party’s flagbearer, 'opposition' will be written on the faces of executives and their supporters in 2024.

“Bawumia can never compete Alan in anything, there is a vast difference and we shouldn’t even encourage it,” he boldly told.

"Losing the elections in 2024 will affect the party a lot and we don’t want that to happen. Let's all support Alan 2024 for Industrialization to move Ghana forward.”

He further entreated the Member of Parliaments to work hard to win back the lost seats in 2024.

“We should win those lost parliamentary seats back by any means and I will plead to party executives to come out with a very strong strategic plan in how to win those seats and the 2024 elections. We should start immediate preparing for 2024.”
