Barcelona have announced the signing of Sergiño Dest from Ajax for 26m euros, the Catalan club confirmed on Thursday.

An initial 21 million euros has been paid plus a further 5 million in variables

“The player will sign a contract for the next five seasons, through to the end of the 2024/25 season, with a buyout clause set at 400 million euros,” the club revealed.

The full-back made his professional debut for the Ajax B team at the age of 17 in a game against PSV Eindhoven in October 2018 and at mid-season, he made the jump to the first team.

He made his first appearance for Ajax in the Dutch Super Cup at the end of July 2019 and his contribution did not go unnoticed by coach Eric ten Hag as Dest.

Overall he made 35 appearances for the first team last season and was solid at defence. He offensive approach rewarded him two goals with six assists.

He will be officially presented tomorrow, Friday 2 October which will be followed by a remote press conference.

Dest can also play as a right or left-back. He earned his first cap for the US national team in 2019.
