About 300 affected farmers of Bagre Dam Spillage at Bazua in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region have received foodstuffs and other relief packages from the Government of Ghana, eight months after the dam's spillage destroyed several hectares of farmlands and displaced them.

Some of the flood victims in the Bazua area who were badly hit by the flood complained bitterly about the government’s inability to come to their aid since the disaster struck them in September 2020.

The District Deputy Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Azimbe Daniel led a delegation to distribute the relief items to the affected farmers and settlers.

the relief packages include 300 bags of rice, 400 bags of maize, 60 boxes of cooking oil, 9 bags of beans, clothes, plastic buckets, basins, bowls, cups, mosquito nets and coils, blankets, mats among others.

Azimbe Daniel appealed to the government and philanthropists to come in their aid of the farmers since they lost lots of yields and may are not able to have enough to buy farm inputs and equipment for this farming season Activities.

He said, “We NADMO appeal to government and NGOs to come to the aid of the farmers to enable them to do farming this season, this support could come in the form of cash and other farm inputs. This will help the farmers to continue farming this season despite the fact that they couldn’t have enough yields last farming season.”

Beneficiary farmers thanked the government for the support.
