The Assemblymember for the Atwima Koforidua Electoral Area, Hon. Emmanuel Antwi is pleading to Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and corporate bodies to relieve them from the threat of a span in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District.

In an interview with Soireenews, Hon. Emmanuel Antwi told that residents are confronted with a devastating bridge that needs a facelift yet efforts to get the work done has proven futile. He revealed that the bridge when fixed will link their town to Abuakwa-Sepase and Manhyia which will improve their economic activities yet the lack of funds has hindered the progress of the work.

Following disappointment by the Atwima Nwabiagya North District Assembly, he asserted that town folks took it upon themselves to donate some monies to help put up the bridge after two persons were killed through flooding when the old could not contain the waters.

Part of the job has been done but the shortage of funds has left the job deserted waiting for assistance from the government.

“The floods took over the bridge and no one could cross so we decided to work on it,” the Assemblymember said.

“We wrote to the Assembly for assistance but they disappointed our request saying the bridgework is greater than the monies in their coffers. We cannot also watch for our children to die.

"We contacted the MP, followed up to the Assembly but to no avail so we raised some money and here we are – shortage of funds has left the project sleeping.

He further updated that the District engineer has come on-site to access the bridge as they have again petitioned the Atwima Nwabiagya North District Assembly but unfortunately the DCE, Hon. Rebecca Yeboah has told them that the Assembly can’t help unless the Central Government itself.

They are therefore calling on Ghanaians for assistance to put up their bridge.
