On October 10, 2023, the results were aired to supporters all across the world, who were shocked and upset by the outcome.

Burna Boy competed in a number of prominent categories at the eagerly awaited event, including Hip Hop Artiste of the Year, Lyricist of the Year, and Best Live Performer of the Year.

Burna Boy was disappointed to see that Kendrick Lamar took home the top prize in these categories for the evening, forcing him to accept the caliber of his rivals.

Burna Boy continued to suffer losses after this. The unstoppable 50 Cent won "Hustler of the Year," but Lil Durk and J. Cole's song "All My Life" beat out Burna Boy's "Sittin' On Top Of The World" with 21 Savage for "Best Collaboration of the Year," slipping through his fingers.

Another surprise was that Lil Uzi Vert's "Just Wanna Rock" won Best Hip Hop Video, putting Burna Boy's "Sittin' On Top Of The World" with 21 Savage back into the background.

The night's high point came when Lil Durk and J. Cole and Lil Durk's hit song "Sittin' On Top Of The World" shared the Song of the Year award.
