Ashaiman circuit court commits a businessman, 60, to GHS 150,000 bail with two sureties for stealing A businessman, 60, is facing trial at the Ashaiman circuit court for stealing items valued at GHS 121,550.00.

Padmore Adu Acheampong has been charged with stealing contrary to section 124(1) of the criminal offences Act 1960,(Act 29).

When the case was first called on the 9/06/23 the accused was present. The court presided over by His Honour Simon Gsga said in view of the punishment upon conviction, the accused cannot be granted bail now therefore, the accused is remanded into police custody and case adjourned to the 12/06/2023.

The counsel for the accused person, Ibrahim Yussif prayed for the abridement of time for his motion to be heard stating ill health conditions of the accused.

The court granted same for the abridgement of time but the application for bail was pending. When the case was called, the presiding judge said having listened to counsel praying for bail for the accused on health grounds and was not opposed to therefore the accused was granted to bail in the sum of GHS150,000 with two sureties and one of them should be justified with landed property.

Case adjourned to 23/06/23. Prosecuting: Presenting the D/C/Inspector Philip Parimah and Number 9798 D/PW/L/CPL Sandra Adoma Boadi investigative case, Chief Inspector Patrick Ayensu told the court that the complainant, Ama Tarpel, is a trader who resides at Kasoa.

The accused, Padmore Adu Acheampong , is a businessman and resides at Kumasi. Chief Inspector Patrick Ayensu further told the court that in October 2021, the complainant whose husband, Frank Acheampong residing in Germany shipped six (6) boxes containing speakers, DJ controller, water pumping machine, wood cutter and foodstuffs all valued at 10,000 Euros, with cedi equivalent of GHS121,550.00 at the rate of 12.15 through Ghana Cargo Groupage container shipping service.

Chief Inspector Patrick Ayensu told the court that the accused being the owner of the company took cash sum of 230 euros, equivalent to GHS 2,794.50 to deliver the boxes in six weeks but failed to do so.

He further said on the 13/03/2023, the complainant reported the matter to the Police that the accused whose whereabouts was unknown refused to report to the station to assist in investigations.

Chief Inspector Patrick Ayensu told the court that on 07/03/2023, the accused was arrested. He said in his caution statement, he admitted having taken the six boxes of items from the complainant's husband but failed to deliver and could not account for them.

After investigations, the accused person was charged with the offence stated on the charge sheet and put before this honourable court.
