As connections strengthen, Rwanda's Kagame meets Uganda's Museveni.

President Paul Kagame of Rwanda met with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni in his first visit to the northern neighbor since tensions erupted in 2019, resulting in three years of border closures.

According to a statement released by State House Entebbe, the two leaders decided to work together to promote regional peace and security by resolving the problem in eastern DRC through the East African Community bloc.

The two met on Sunday, according to the report.

Mr. Museveni urged the regional union to resolve the insecurity in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo before the problem there worsens.

Mr. Kagame stated that all sides to the dispute must be involved to resolve the situation once and for all.

Kenya, Burundi, Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Rwanda agreed last week to send a regional force to combat rebel groups in the turbulent region.

President Kagame was in Uganda on a private visit to attend a banquet honoring Mr. Museveni's son, Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the commander of Uganda's ground forces, who turned 48 over the weekend.

Mr. Museveni later tweeted photos of the dinner and thanked President Kagame for honoring the invitation "after years of not coming here".
