He met former members of the extremist group Boko Haram on Tuesday at a de-radicalization center in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state.

Later on Wednesday, UN Secretary-General António Guterres will meet with Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari and other officials in Abuja, the country's capital.
Mr. Guterres went on a field tour in Borno state, in north-eastern Nigeria, where he spoke with UN agencies and humanitarian organizations that have been assisting hundreds of families fleeing attacks by Islamist terrorists.

According to the United Nations, Islamist terrorists have forced more than two million people to evacuate their homes in north-eastern Nigeria.
Mr. Gu.terres had earlier in Niger appealed for additional international assistance, including equipment and funds, to help Sahel countries deal with terrorist groups and the humanitarian catastrophe.
