Army will send 10,000 troops to KwaZulu-Natal flooding

Following the disastrous floods that swept across sections of KwaZulu-Natal province last week, the South African military has announced the deployment of more than 10,000 troops to assist with relief and rescue operations.

More than 440 people have died, and the hunt for the remaining 63 persons is ongoing.

Swollen rivers and mudslides wiped out several of them.

KwaZulu-Natal has been named a disaster area by the government.

Officials called the floods worst than the province has ever seen.

Nearly 4,000 homes were destroyed and over 8,000 were damaged, according to KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala, the majority of which were in the coastal metropolis of Durban and its neighboring districts.
