Anglo-gold Ashanti Obuasi mines have provided support to 80 brilliant but needy students in its host communities through the company's Community Trust Fund Project.

The students were drawn from the various tertiary institutions in the country, with teacher trainees dominating the beneficiaries.

Speaking at the event, the Programs Manager for the Trust Fund, Mr Emmanuel Amoah explained the processes and criteria used to select beneficiaries.

"The selection process goes through proper scrutiny to ascertain that the awardees are indeed in need," he told Soireenews.

"We rely on steering committee members, Chiefs and assembly members as well as Ghana Education Service to interview all applicants in order to get the best," he added.

He further shared the expectations of Anglo-gold from the beneficiaries saying "we are expecting these beneficiaries to make good use of it to become good and useful citizens in the future" Mr Amoah concluded.

On the part of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly, Honourable Elijah Adansi Bonah charged them to make good use of the scholarship so they can also provide support to those in need in the future when AGA is no more functioning.

In total, Anglo-gold Ashanti spent eighty thousand (80,000) cedis on the project with each student receiving one thousand cedis to supplement their parent's efforts.
