David Alaba is reported to have turned down a contract extension offered by Bayern Munich, Bild reports.

The 28-year old current contract will end next year and further time to stay at the Allianz Arena was suggested with a salary of 11m euros per year.

Bild submitted that the Austrian professional footballer has decided to end his reign in the Bundesliga due to growing interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Alaba joined Bayern Munich in 2011 and is currently in the peak of his career. At the age of 28, he put together an excellent 2019/20 season to help Bayern Munich lift the Champions League, the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal.

Last summer they also beat Borussia Dortmund to lift the DFL-Super cup and Sevilla to clinch the UEFA Super Cup at the Puskas Arena in Budapest. They are now one title away from matching Barcelona's feat from 2009 when they won six titles in a year under Manchester City's current coach Pep Guardiola.

The player is the second to reject a prolongment of stay with Bayern following Thiago Alcantara, who completed his move to Liverpool during the just-ended transfer window.

Juventus is also reported to be interested in the defender as they seek to renovate their backline. The Austrian's pair with Mathijs de Ligt will be exceptional especially as Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci's age advances.
