Plans are underway to make good use of groundwater resources for the people of this country, the Deputy Minister, Water, and Sanitation Minister, Mr. Amidu Issahaku Chinnin has disclosed.

This, according to the DeputyMinisterr, was necessary for the country to make use of the entirety of water beneath the ground to complement the surface water supply.

According to him, it is necessary to guard against the excessive pollution which results from illegal mining and thereby reducing the cost of water treatment.

To ensure water bodies are not polluted, Mr. Chinnin said all measures must be put in place to ensure the underground water is protected.

Making a statement on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, the Communication Minister, Mrs. Ursula Owusu Akuffo said President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has done a lot in the water sector.

She said the people of the Volta Region are enjoying a steady supply of water due to what she termed heavy investment.

But the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bodi Constituency in the Western North Region, Mr. Sampson Ahi urged the government to set up plans to provide more water to the citizenry.

He noted that the government was not performing well in the provision of safe drinking water to the general public.

"If what they claimed they have supplied does not complement the demands of the citizenry, then they have done nothing at all," Mr. Ahi noted.

For his part, The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Madina Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Mr. Francis-Xavier Kojo Sosu urged the government to make use of underground water to complement the supply of surface water.
