The Chief Executive Officer of Public Sector Reforms, Mr. Kusi Boafo has counseled the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) not to be perplexed by their short-term employment however, they should work effectively to help shapen Ghana as a nation.

According to the Guest speaker at the NABCO first Anniversary Durbar yesterday, October, 14, 2019 themed, “Investing in the Youth, Securing Our future through Opportunities for Work and Nation Building,” nobody in Ghana is on a sustainable job therefore participants should secure their future by working hard to provide solutions to most of the latent and active government’s initiatives.

“Nobody is on a sustainable job in Ghana now, not even the president himself. It is not myself, the regional minister or the GRA (Ghana Revenue Authority)… the sustainable job rest in you to secure your future,” he said.

The government of Ghana initiated the NABCO programme to address graduate unemployment and solve social issues on a temporal employment basis. Although the initiative has its version of challenges relating to employment, yet participants have been encouraged not to focus on the concluding stages but weigh up ideas to be supportable through creating their own businesses.

According to Mr. Kusi Boafo, the focus of the government is to empower private sector to create jobs hence the various initiatives in order to oil the grounds for private sector business.

“When we talk about One District One factory, people do not understand the philosophy thinking government will establish the factory. That would make him a bad executive. The government must collaborate the private sector. Where there are cheap lows, the government must direct the private sector to such areas. Where there are lands, our chiefs will also help. We are building that alliance so at the end of the day, the One District one factory accomphment would not be like the factories that we built in the 60’s which later collapsed. We want sustainable ones,” he said.

He revealed that Ghana’s profitability would come from Enterprise Ghana i.e. individuals who take risks through investment to set up a business therefore the Nations Builder’s Corp should not be anxious to start a personal business for themselves.

“Nobody has ever become a billionaire by becoming an employee. It is never so. You cannot be like Bill Gate when you are under supervision. You Only Become One When you start something on your own. That is the enterprise and the only inheritance you can leave for your children and your children’s children,” he added.

Hon. Simon Osei-Mensah, the Ashanti Regional Minister revealed that 25 percent of NABCO employees out of the national total have been placed in the seven different NABCO modules in the Ashanti Region. He disclosed that monies paid to these workers monthly amounts to 17.5 billion, a huge investment in the life of Ghanaian Youth to improve National development hence the demand for personnel to equip themselves adequately to fulfill the government’s agenda.

“The theme for the anniversary, investing in the Youth, Securing Our future through Opportunities for Work and Nation Building is very appropriate. Our local objectives clearly indicates that there is a huge investment in Ghana in securing the future of our youth,” he added.

The Regional Minister condemned certain dishonest acts of some NABCO personnel posted at the Ghana Revenue Authority spoken earlier by Mr. Edward Aggrey Fynn, the Principal Revenue Officer of GRA. According to him, workers of NABCO engaged at the GRA arrive late to work and put on unfair attitude, which contravenes the codes and ethics of the Authority. Mr. Osei Mensah urged the Principal Revenue Officer to provide names of those workers to the Regional Coordinator for a talk.

“I believe we are all witnesses of such situation (lateness and absenteeism) and it is not a good working behavior. Let us pursue hard work from now till the end. With discipline and determination, the sky is the limit,” he said.

He further cautioned attendees to desist from making money in dubious manners and work hard.

The Ashanti Regional NABCO Coordinator, Dennis Kwakwa educated the media that government’s purpose for installing NABCO is on course regardless of the challenges. He advised the media to seek credible sources for information relating to the Nation Builders Corps and avoid publishing news provided by unpatriotic workers who want to degrade and tarnish the image of the government's inventiveness.

“These are people who do probably do not go to work and therefore don’t get their time sheets signed by their supervisors for us to pay them. We have processes that we go through to make sure that anyone who does not attend work is not paid and that is the reason why you sometimes hear people complaining about non-payment,” he said.

He revealed 80 percent success have been achieved over challenges since the program started.

“We believe that it was a program that started with a brigade of 100,000 and if you have such a number of people moving at the same time, no matter what you do, some will go wayward without catching your attention so one year over the time we have been able to resolve most of these issues and we believe that matters of truancy are no longer entertained as it used to be,” he ended.
