The Minister for Food and Agriculture Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, has been lambasted by the Communications officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Tain Constituency in the Bono Region, Mr. Abayie Nkrumah (Oga) for performing poorly as the Food and Agriculture Minister.
According to him, Dr. Afriyie Akoto is one of the poorest ministers among the appointees of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the country and he should be sacked.
He bemoaned the rate at which the Minister for Food and Agriculture has been given to Ghanaians on food production levels in the account.
According to him, the minister, by his action is showing more of his poor performance to Ghanaians on false indication that the country is food secure, which is not the best.
The communications officer, who made these remarks in Anopa Nkommo's show interview further stated that the agricultural sector has become worse off in the era of Dr. Akoto and this calls for his resignation.
“One of the ministries in this country that has been chinning out very wrong and false information has been the Ministry of Agriculture. The Planting for Food and Jobs is certainly a great initiative, but unfortunately, the high level of our food production capacity and rates and in terms of the high inflation on food abhors. Cost food items gradually increasing without any proper plan from the ministry", he bemoaned.
“He has always been exposed for putting out the blame on the Russia-Ukraine war but it appears that it does not discourage food security in the country,” he added.
Describing the Agric Minister's performance as poor, the communications officer pointed out that most of the sub-sectors under the agriculture are struggling, putting farmers in difficult economic conditions.
He recalled that the number of funds injected into the Agric sector should be yielding positive outcomes if the funds were productively used.
He maintained that the minister must give way for his replacement because his assertions on agricultural input are contrary to what farmers are going through on the ground.
