Abandoned police station at Ohwim-Amanfrom increasing insecurity - Residents

Residents of Ohwim-Amanfrom electoral area in the Bantama Constituency of the Ashanti region are crying out over the increasing insecurity of lives and property as a result of the consistent rampage of robbery attacks.

Ohwim-Amanfrom is a community that shares a boundary with Atwima Nwabiagya North whereby there is a constituent activity of trade day and night yet due to lack of security, there are congruous robbery attacks which on several occasions have led to the loss of lives and properties.

A cross-section of residents and drivers told an Ashanti-based Silver FM's Akwadaa Nyame that hoodlums are having a field day in the area yet the police service is unable to curb their activities for years now.

The police station which was started by the Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Bantama constituency Daniel Okyem Aboagye is currently taken over by weeds and reptiles.

According to the area is no longer safe to reside in as many residents have lost their personal effects or been stabbed over a long period of years.                  

The unit committee chairman, Mr. Boniface Addai noted that "the criminals disturb us very much here, there are Bank here in my house, they have broken the Bank and have stolen everything".        

These people steal and sell our items to people around therefore we need security in this area,” he asserted.

Residents however attributed the state of insecurity to the abandoned police station in the area which has been useless since it was started five years ago. 

The residents have appealed to the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akufo-Dampare, and current Member of Parliament Honorable Asenso Boakye to complete the abandoned police station to have policemen help restore sanity and security in the area.
