33 People Were Killed In Gory Road Accidents In Gomoa Potsin Amidst Tension
These ghasting road accidents which had occured between 2014 and 2023 were as a result of restless drinking by the drivers, the development which has not gone down well with thousands of young people in Potsin and Gomoa Dominase who staged a massive demonstration on Thursday December 14, 2023.

A TOTAL NUMBER of thirty-three (33) were knocked down and killed by drivers at Potsin Justin near the Gomoa Dominase Onion Market in the Gomoa East District of Central Region.
These ghasting road accidents which had occured between 2014 and 2023 were as a result of restless drinking by the drivers, the development which has not gone down well with thousands of young people in Potsin and Gomoa Dominase who staged a massive demonstration on Thursday December 14, 2023.
Amidst singing of the war songs and hoisting placards saying that their eyes are red, the aggrieved the protesters who are residents from Dominase, Potsin, Buduatta, Okyereko, Akotsi, Mampong, Mpota and Adawukwaa in their petition sent a strong worded signal to the drivers to stop the rampant killing of their families and neighbours on the road.
"We are tired and feeling fed up of speeding drivers knocking and killing our people on the road at Gomoa Potsin and Dominase Onion Market enclave, we are saying that we would not sit down aloof for these drivers to be killing out families and neighbours on the road," the protestors told Soireenews.com
According to them, many people including the school children are losing their lives when crossing the road as a result of the speeding drivers knocking down them.
"We the amalgamation of concerned citizens of Potsin and the stakesholders from aforementioned communities are calling on your outfit to come to the aid of venulrable citizens to find out immediate workable situation to end these killings and injuries resulting from these knockdowns of our people on our highway," the protestors stressed when they petitioned the Gomoa East District Chief Executive (DCE).
The protesters who clad in red attires and head bands called on the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA and the Assembly to, immediately construct the speed ramps on the that stretch of the road to prevent the drivers of drinking on speed which has resulted to the rampant killing of traders and onion buyers in the area.
Led by their spokesperson Mr Obo Anderson, the protestors advised drivers to be extra careful when driving through the road in Gomoa Dominase market enclave saying that stretch is the congested market area for which many people cross the road to shop in the market.
They observed that construction of speed ramps on the stretch of the road would go a long way to prevent the rampant killing of their families and neighbours by drivers.
They stated that they cannot use their decision to construct speed ramps without seeking proper documentation since it is illegal to do so hence their called on the GHA and the Assembly to immediately come to their aid.
“The drivers plying the road are the necessary evil. These drivers who are not applying the basic rules when driving. Many people have been knocked down by drivers on the road whilst crossing to buy onion at the Dominase market. We realized that it is the need that should take the action to demonstrate to register our displeasure about the killing of the people in the area by the drivers. And we pleaded with the Authorities to construct the speed ramps if not more people may be knocked down and killed by the drivers.
They blamed the drivers for not applying basic common sense when driving that he is why they were killing the people in the area.
He admonished drivers who ply the road to apply common sense when driving within the area in order not to cause accidents, adding that it’s pointless for drivers to embark on reckless speeding when driving within communities.
“But basic common sense must always be applied to our driving on the roads. You don’t necessarily need to have a speed ramp in a community.”
“There is adequate information that when are you approaching a community, you lift your leg off the pedal and drive within the regulated speed," he told Soireenews.com in an interview.
Highlighting on the roads traffic accidents which had occurred in Potsin junction, Mr Anderson revealed that the pieces of statistics available indicate that a total of thirty-three (33) people have been knocked down and killed by the drivers between 2014 and 2023.

On the 9th of April 2014 a young girl with the name Esther Quaye was Knocked down by a car whilst she was crossing the road.
In the month of July 2018, a male pedestrian was crossing the road around 6:40pm and was Knocked down by a car and died on the spot with his testicle pulled out of his body.
Mary Tetteh October2018,was Knocked down by a car when crossing the road and she died on the spot.
Andrews Arthur,June 2020 was Knocked down by a car when crossingthe road on his motorbike.
Ebenezer Quansah in the month of February 2021around 5:30pm was Knocked down by a car when crossing the road. He was rushed to Potsin Polyclinic but died the same day.
6.Richmond Larbieon the 19th ofApril 2021was Knocked down bya car whilst crossing the road.
7.On Friday 12/05/2021at 10:00 pm Mercedes Benz with registration number GT521521, A Man DieselCargo Truck with registration number BJ 1928B and A Mercedes Benz trailer with registration BA1166--P were involved
in an accident and 5 passengers died on the spot and 10passengers sustained various degreesof injuries.
8.A Fuani herdsman in October 2021was Knocked down by a car when crossing the road and died on the spot.
9.On the 11/10/2021at 4:30am A Ford Commercial Bus with registration number CR 63821 Knocked down a male unatic when he was crossing the road and died on the spot...
10.On the 24/09/2021at 9:45pm a Man diesel trailer with registration number GN 575320,a VW mini Bus with registration number GC5145 -21 and a Toyota Hiace with registration number GX 100--21 were involved in an
accident simultaneously and 15 passengers sustained various degrees of injuries.
11.On the 9/06/ 2021at 7:30pm a Nissan Sentra with registration number GS 9637--21 Knocked down a pedestrian with a name Adu Boahen whilst crossing the road.
12.On the 02/02/2022at 2: 10am a Toyota Hiace with registration number GS 5746--20 Knocked down a police woman by name Miss Comfort Feri whilst she was on duty at a police snap check point.
13.On the 14th of February 2022a mentally challenged femalewas Knocked down by a car when crossing the road.
14.On Saturday 09/04/2022at 4:30am VW Sprinter a Commercial Bus with registration number GX 9541—21 Knocked down a cow which was crossing the road and one passenger died on the spot and others on board sustained various injuries.
15.Emmanuel Kojo on the 18th of April2022colided with a moving car whilst on his motorbike and died on the
spot.
16.On the 6th of November, 2022, around7:30pm a student from PotsinT.I Ahmadiyya secondary school with the
name HamiduAmidu was Knockeddown by a carwhilst crossing the road.
He died10 hours later in Korlebu Teaching Hospital.
17.On the 11/11/2022about 11:45am a VW Commercial Bus with registration number GR 5395--21 Knocked down a pedestrian with a name Ernest Adomah and ost his life on the spot.
18.In the first week of December 2022a femae pedestrian was Knocked down by a car whilst she was walking by the roadside. But survived it.
19.On the 06/02/2023at 7:30pm a Mercedes Benz Sprinter with registration number GE 5530--18 Knocked down a female lunatic pedestrian and she died on the spot.
20.On the 12/03/2023at 7:30pm a Ford E350 with registration number GR 7225--09 Knocked down a woman with the name Barikisu Afful Atta Kakra pus her 3-year-old baby girl whilst crossing the road.The mother died on the
spot whilst the baby died at Potsin Polyclinic fewhours later.
21.On the 15th of April 2023, a police officer on duty at a snap check point was Knocked down by a car and was later rushed to police hospital in Accra.
22.On the 17th of April 2023,between the hours of 8:00am and9: 00am the STC bus that was carrying about 27 students plus other passengers from Accra to CapeCoast got involved in an accident that grounded the STC and the Tipper trucks on our stretch.
23.On the 17th of April 2023,between the hours of 2: 00pm and 3:00pm on the same stretch a cargo truck carrying assorted drinks got involved in an accident on the same stretch
24.On the 1st of May 2023,around the hours of 11:30am,one Emmanuel Monko an Okada man was crushed by a Commercial minivan when he was crossing the road. He was then rushed to the Potsin Polyclinic for further
emergency treatment.
25.On the 3rd of May 2023around at exactly 6:20pm two Commercial vehicles got involved in an accident and the casualties were rushed to Potsin Polyclinic for treatment.
26.On the 4th of May 2023under the scorching sun and at exactly 12:00am a private bulion van involved in an accident it got somersaulted for more than four times.
27.On the 7th of May 2023a motor rider by name PauKofi Annan was Knocked down by a Commercial vehicle whilst crossing the road. He was rushed to PotsinPolyclinic for immediate treatment. It happened around
1:30pm.
28.On the 12th of May, 2023, wewoke up to witness that a resident that lives at Mustapha Estate was Knocked down by a car.He was dead when residents discovered his body.
29.On the 13th of May2023,another accident was recorded which involved two private salon cars.The victims were sent to the Potsin Polyclinic for treatment.
30.On the 27th of May, Saturday another accident was recorded which involved a motor cyce with registration number 21-1444 and a Commercial vehicle with a registration number CR-1474-22.Thank God no death
recorded.
31.On the 30th of May 2023a gory accident was recorded on the stretch of our highway happening at Okyereko which took the lives of many. It was involveda tanker car and a Yutong bus.
32.On the 10th of June, 2023another accident was recorded involving a Rhino truck with a registration number GT 2319 N and a Metro Mass Transport with a registration number GS 528420.Lives were not lost and no serious
injuries recorded. This happened between the hours of 1:30 pm to 2:00pm.
33.On the 11th of June, 2023 an accident was recorded betweena Yutong bus with registration number GT 6282- 19 and a motorcycle. The bus driver hit the motor bike and never stopped until he was given a hot chase by the Okada riders at Potsin junction
