The Ghana Private Road Transport Union has described the 15 pesewas reduction in fuel price as insignificant as it calls for a 20 % increment of transport fares.

This comes after Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, on Thursday, March 24, 2022, announced a 15 pesewas reduction of fuel price per litre effective April 1, 2022.

This was part of several measures taken by the government to mitigate the economic effects on Ghanaians.

Speaking on Ark news monitored by Soiree News, the deputy secretary in charge of administration at GPRTU, Richard Yaw Amankwa said the 15 pesewas was woefully inadequate since fuel prices have been increased many times this year.

According to him, GPRTU anticipated GHC 13. 40 reduction before the announcement.

This he believes would have eased the economic burden on drivers.

Mr Amankwa said his outfit has already sent a proposal to the Transport Ministry calling for an increase of 20% in fares.
