CDAG implements 15?re increase despite not been satisfied

Driver Union, Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana (CDAG) says it has implemented the 15% transport fare increase on their fares even though they are not satisfied.

Transport fares have been increased nationwide. This follows some agitations raised by the various driver unions on the continued increase of petroleum products and car spare parts.
Some unions even though not satisfied with the percentage increment as they were requesting for a 30% increase, increased their fares even before the full implementation from Saturday.
However, the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana in an official communique to draw the attention of their customers to the new development charge them to bear with them as they have been handicapped with the situation.

Statement on Fuel Increment and Transport Fares

We send warm felicitations to the media and convey our heartfelt gratitude to them for the mileage they continue to give us.

Members and other stakeholders of the above-mentioned Association wish to by this statement, mention to the Executive, Legislature and other arms of government as well as the entire Ghanaian populace especially our clients(passengers), our position on the Increment of Transport Fares and Fuel Prices.

1. Transport Fare Increment: we wish to place on record that, we are not satisfied with the recent 15% increment in transport fares which took effect from, Saturday, February 26, 2022. Our dissatisfaction rises out of the fact that the prices of petrol commodities have seen multiple increments so as the prices of spare parts and lubricants, a situation that far outweighs the 15% increment offered to us.
What it simply means is that we would have to still forcibly adjust ourselves to just keep our business running.
At this point, we can only hope of breaking even as making a profit out of our business has become unrealistic. But it is worth noting that, we have only briefly accepted the increment as a result of the sentiments we share with our clients over the general hardship condition in our country presently. We, therefore, urge our clients, in that regard passengers, not to quarrel or fight with drivers as the full implementation of the increment in transport fares officially take effect.

2. Consistent Upward Adjustment of Fuel Prices: it is very alarming to witness the continuous upward adjustment in the prices of fuel under this government.
Perhaps, it has become more refreshing to remind the President of the Republic His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo of his solemn promise made to us at different locations concerning his resolve to drastically reduce the price of petrol. Then as Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, he mentioned at Fadama and Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra, Kejetia in Kumasi, Tamale, the Northern regional capital, and Mankesim in the central region amongst other places in the country to ensure that fuel prices are reduced drastically should he become President.

But sadly, the narrative has been a sharp contradiction as fuel has already broken the GHC 8. 00 mark even though he picked it between GHC 3 and 4 in 2017.

We wish to unequivocally state that, the continuous increment in fuel prices has made drivers even more impoverished and wish to send a strong signal to the government that a further increment would be disastrous.

We have noted with concern how the Minister of Finance has begun citing the Russia-Ukraine war as a possible cause to another increment in fuel prices and wish to therefore remind the President by his own words that petrol is drilled in our country hence, irrational to continually increase petrol prices.

We, therefore, convey to the President, that any further increment in the prices of petrol shall not be countenanced by our members and would rather result in us moving to picket at his known residence in Nima with our vehicles from all ladies of the country.

Life has become unbearable and we expect the Nana Addo government to be more proactive and save us from us dying as we rallied behind him to actualize his dream.
