Paris Saint Germain recorded an important 1-0 victory at the Parc des Princes against RB Leipzig.

The French side defended the only goal of the game courageously to climb level on points with the Germans following Manchester United’s 4-1 win against Istanbul Basaksehir.

A draw or loss would have put the Parisians in an uncomfortable spot and threatened their chances of qualifying.

Neymar scored the opener from the spot 11 minutes into the first half after a foul on Di Maria. The Argentine broke into the penalty area and Sabitizer was careless to bring him down in the yard. The Brazilian took his time, before coolly stroking it into Gulácsi's bottom right corner.

The home side forwards after the goal worked hard off the ball, but were not clicking in possession in the final third.

PSG went close again in the 22-minute through Di Maria but the Argentine's struck from the edge of the area, bobbled goalwards and was easily dealt with by Gulácsi.

Paris retreated a little since their opener which gave Leipzig more of the ball, but the Parisian defence looked content to soak up the pressure.

Navas was put into real test by Haidara in the 38-minute after the No8 thumped it from distance and the goalkeeper did well to get his body in the way and deny him.

Leipzig having spent the bulk of the game in Paris' half so far kept pushing for the equalizer until the end of the first half.

The visitors began the second half just as they ended the first and enjoyed most of the ball in the host's side of the pitch. They kept pushing against an opposition content to sit deep and wait for chances on the break.

Mbappe was presented with a counter from to deepen the woes of Leipzig. The No7 spins in behind the Leipzig backline before slicing his effort into the stand.

PSG lacked midfield creativity, the link to connect Neymar and Mbappe was missing so the players were essentially forced to bring the ball forward themselves. Tuchel introduced Rafinha for Di María to stitch the play together with a little more fluency, a responsibility the Argentine was not living up to since winning the penalty.

Leipzig began sending cross after cross into the Paris box, but they couldn’t pick out a man in white. The hosts, to their credit, defended like a team who know they cannot afford not to win this game.

Neymar was taken off for Sarabia as Keane took the place of Mbappe after Leipzig seem to have run out of steam.

Rafinha came to close to scoring three minutes into injury time but was denied by Gulácsi. The Germans kept floating the long balls into PSG box but the defence was too strong to allow a last-minute slip off.

The final whistle was blown to give the Ligue 1 team the needed points to go level with the host in Group H.
