Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has justified goalkeeper, David De Gea after fans criticism on his proneness to mistakes.

Fans have blamed the 29-year old of costing Man United games with the recent accusation related to Bergwijn's goal after the Dutchman was allowed to gather possession around 40 yards from goal and cut a path easily through the defense before blasting a shot through David de Gea.

The manager in his pre-match conference on Tuesday acknowledged the supportive work of the Spanish and entreated fans to define him by the positives.

“David is the best goalkeeper in the world. He’s conceded two goals in the last seven games he’s played for us. There’s a few games against [Manchester] City, Chelsea, Tottenham, and Everton. Two goals in seven games, he’s been on a run of not conceding goals. The two goals… the Everton one is a freak one and this one, maybe he can save it, maybe he can’t save it,” he said.

“He makes great saves and wins games for us and I still think he’s the best goalkeeper in the world. He’s not making errors that you see time and time again. I’m really happy with his work. David is working consistently hard in training and I’m happy with his work.”

The Red Devils will host Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United at Old Trafford on Wednesday. The first leg between the two sides ended 3-3 at Bramall Lane and Solskjaer would prefer to win the game to enhance his top four chances as Chelsea takes on Manchester City. The Blades will travel to Old Trafford with loanee, Dean Henderson in post.

The English international’s loan with the Blades yet agreement was reached between the two sides to finish the remainder of the season before a decision on his future would be made.

“I think so. That’s due to admin and the paperwork. Hopefully they’ll settle that. Dean’s had a fantastic year, as he did last year at Sheffield United. So far, he’s proven that the loans have worked out as we wanted.”

He further praised Scott McTominay for his dedication by signing a long term contract for Manchester United. The Scottish according to the manager is a hardworker and such commitment is always aimed at winning trophies for the club which is part of his ambitions.

“He’s been a part of the club for so long and we’re delighted he can see his future here, a long-term future., That’s what we needed - 2025 plus an option [of another year]. Scotty has been developing so much in the last few years,” he said.

“I watched him and was excited to come in and work with him. He’s such a humble, hard-working boy, with the Man United DNA. He knows what it takes to go through the ranks and he’s a leader on the pitch. We’re very happy that we’re going to work together towards winning trophies.”
