Ms. Kuubrah Yakubu, the leader of the Young Urban Movement in her speech stated that, as a woman and activist group, they have joined their counterparts across the world to stand and protect young girls on their fundamental human rights.

According to her, they are using international girl child day to call on the government and all citizens to uphold the fundamental right of all girls and women through an increase in investment in girl child education.

She added that women should be empowered with vocational skills and the provision of startup tools to promote decent work, preventing and protecting girls from all forms of violence and discrimination against girls.

Kwame Afram Denkyirah the Program Manager of ActionAid also stated that Article 28 of the 1992 constitution included the provision of violence against girls and women to protect all women and girls in the country.

He added that as a country, we need to reflect on how we have kept the promise in the constitution and ActionAid Ghana has joined other organizations to call on the government and all stakeholders not to tolerate child marriage in the country.
