Fire has razed down more than 50 wooden structures in the Dagombaline in the Asokore-Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The fire which occurred on Monday, January 11, 2020, around 3 pm has rendered more than 200 residents scrap dealers and head potters popularly called Kayayeis homeless after a similar incident had occurred at Aboabo a suburb of the Kumasi Metropolis

No substance of injuries have been recorded but the fire has destroyed many properties of the residents mostly squatters.

The Ghana National Fire Service is yet to identify the cause of the fire outbreak, CO3 Ackah Demond Ashanti Regional Fire Service PRO told Soiree News in an interview.

The Ashanti Regional Director of National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr Kwabena Senkyire and his team have said they will relocate the residents to a better home to avoid another outbreak which seems to occur every year. 

The popular Dagombaline slum is a densely populated area the greater Kumasi city, dominated by head porters and scrap dealers most of whom have travelled from the northern part of the country to seek greener pastures.
